Army Corps recreation area on Wright Patman Lake
Army Corps recreation area on Wright Patman Lake

We headed to Texas on March 18th and upon entering the state Tom declared “we are in Texas we have to have BBQ!” So we found a great little place along the way and found some pretty hospitable folks and some delicious BBQ!

We arrived at Rocky Point Army Corps campground in Queen City, Texas on the 18th. Our site was right on the Wright Patman Lake! Beautiful!! What we did not anticipate were 30-40mph wind gusts and 18-20mph sustained winds! And we were only staying there two nights. After hearing the winds whip against our motor home all night the first night we decided to close our slides to protect the toppers that were flapping pretty hard with the wind. There were even white caps on the lake!

After learning the winds would not die down until 10pm we decided to check out other campsites and found some that were more protected from the wind. So we moved!

Moving was a good idea. We were able to have a fire and cook outside. The view wasn’t as nice but what good is a view if you can’t even sit outside? Next up was Mill Creek Army Corps campground in Brookeland, Texas where we met up with a group of other Alliance 310 owners (we were incognito with our motor home lol).

It was a lot of fun meeting other Allies! It was a weekend of good food, scenic views, bourbon tasting, and fellowship.

Had to have catfish! The potluck dinner was so good! Lots of Mexican themed dishes. Tom cooked in his cast iron ovens of course!

We stayed a few extras days and also canceled a day when we firmed up some plans to visit Shenandoah National Park on the way home AND visit Kara and Peter in Maryland.

Next up: Eastward bound!
