We worked our way to a Moab, Utah campground Thursday June 5th and Friday stayed at a Walmart parking lot in Salida, Colorado. We took route 50 to Salida, a road that was closed for bridge work last year, and wow was it beautiful. Along this route is the biggest reservoir in Colorado, The Blue Mesa, and Monarch Pass-elevation 11,312 feet. Saturday we used our RV Overnight membership and stayed on the property of Bugling Elk Vineyards in Penrose, CO. A very personable retired Green Beret with a thriving winery was our host. We also visited with Amanda, a cousin of Tom’s, and Tom got his chance to use the Dutch Ovens! We also drove away with a supply of wine!

Next stop was Cheyenne State Park in Colorado Springs where we had a lovely picnic at our campsite, thunderstorms and everything, with Tom’s brother Peter and his wife Joanne and members of their clan! What a nice day!

We packed on the miles the next few days to get to Elkhart, Indiana to visit the Phoenix Cruiser mothership for some repairs. The trip home would not be complete without a 3 1/2 hour closed highway on I-80 in PA. All I can say is thank heavens we had a bathroom with us!
Last year when we bought this motor home we realized we could not afford to buy it but we could not afford to NOT buy it. While on this trip I turned the age my mom was when she died. This was an important “you only live once” trip for me. But what I’m realizing is if you do it right once is enough. The Grand Canyon was a huge item on my wishlist and I’m so blessed to have experienced God’s infinite beauty.
Don’t put it off. Don’t wait until another day.
Happy Trails!
