We started on our 2026 Adventure on Sunday, March 15th. It’s been a week of unprecedented weather and unreal temperatures. Sunday through Wednesday we experienced 40mph wind gusts and overnight temps in the teens with below zero windchill. We did thankfully miss the blizzard that slammed the upper Midwest. Sunday we stopped at a Cracker Barrel in Ohio. It was chilly but not bad. I looked ahead and saw the temps for Tuesday and we found a place in Indiana which is part of RV Overnights and had 20amp electric hookup. We ran a space heater and the temps inside were still in the 40’s! Icicles hung from the awning outside and Tom’s shoes froze to the step INSIDE the motor home! This was definitely the coldest weather we have ever experienced while RVing!

As we moved west the weather improved. Currently it is Saturday the - 21st Happy Spring! After 2050 miles we are now in Tucumcari, New Mexico and it is a balmy 97 degrees! An unprecedented heat wave has a hold on the West! The temps changed for us 80 degrees in 5 days!! Always an adventure!

St. Patrick’s Day we still had corned beef and cabbage on the road! ☘️ Tuesday and Wednesday we stayed at an RV Overnight place called Skyway Farms in Missouri. The land had been in the family for many years and they decided to turn it into a wedding venue. Very nice and we were able to de-winterize and relax from the miles of travel! And of course chat with the owner Gretchen.

Thursday it was on to Yoder, Kansas. A town founded by an Amish man, Valentine Yoder. The town has a strong Amish and Mennonite heritage and population. We stayed in the parking lot of Carriage Crossing restaurant and enjoyed a nice dinner.

One interesting thing we learned was Kansas does agricultural burning every spring. We kept seeing smoke as we were driving. It is done mostly in the Flint Hills region and it creates more palatable forage for cattle, and gets rid of invasive trees and insects. There are restrictions in place but it sure seemed hazy.

Tomorrow we move again and will land at a Walmart in Gallop, NM. We will find a church to attend Mass which is always so interesting. Then Monday is a campground in Kingman, Arizona. Tuesday we finally arrive in California at a campground in Joshua Tree National Park. Yay! Our next blog will be from there!

Happy Trails!

Tom & Deb
