Other Outdoor Methods

Some of the other methods we have used over the years!

Hanging a Turkey

This requires some work. Each corner is rebar rods hammered into the ground with chicken wire basket attached to each to hold charcoal. A tripod is constructed to hang the turkey in the middle of the four rebar charcoal corners. Turkey has to be wrapped in wire to hang. Then heavy duty foil is wrapped on top and around all four corners and ground to create an outdoor oven tent. We did this for a few Thanksgivings! More photos in our cooking gallery.

Clute Cooker

This is an invention by a fellow dutch oven enthusiast, Dennis Clute, and is made with galvanized steel flashing with a feed pan on top and on bottom. It comes apart for compact travel.

Over the campfire

You need to get a good fire going far ahead of when you want to cook so you have good coals.

We put a chicken standing up on a rack inside a cast iron skillet. Covered it with a galvanized trash can with coals around base and on top.
